Brief

A noted structure dating from the 1850s, St Catherine’s suffered serious fire damage in January 2012. Lafferty was appointed to support the parish representatives, who were also joined on the project team by the Dublin Design Team, the Archdiocese of Dublin and the loss adjuster acting for the insurer.

Solution

The church required extensive restoration works including floors, walls, stone, ceilings, stained glass windows and roof. All of these elements were completed in time for a re-opening in at the end of 2013.

The Telford & Telford tracker organ (Dublin 1858) was fully restored and reinstated during 2014. The east window of the church suffered significant damage but was comprehensively salvaged (65%), cleaned, reassembled and reinstated ahead of the re-dedication ceremony in November 2014.

Outcomes

Lafferty worked closely with the parish, The Archdiocese, the design team and the Loss adjuster to structure design development and the processing of the insurance claim and approval.

Through appropriate and relevant communication all parties took ownership of the structured approach which led to the successful delivery of the project.
